Mora National Fish Hatchery
Located in Mora Valley of northern New Mexico, Mora National Fish Hatchery is dedicated to the recovery of one of America’s rarest native trout species. Established in the 1990s, the hatchery uses innovative water-recycling technology that reduces water use by approximately 95%. This makes it one of the most water-efficient fish hatcheries in the National Fish Hatchery System.
Mora is the only national fish hatchery that raises the threatened Gila trout. By maintaining all surviving genetic lineages, the hatchery serves as a safeguard against wild population losses caused by wildfire, drought, and flooding while supporting recovery efforts in New Mexico and Arizona.
