Alchesay National Fish Hatchery
Located on White River on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, Alchesay National Fish Hatchery has been producing trout for Tribal waters since 1963. Authorized in 1959, the hatchery was established to fulfill the federal responsibility of stocking Tribal fisheries throughout eastern Arizona and western New Mexico.
Alchesay serves as a grow-out facility for rainbow and brown trout raised from fingerlings supplied by Williams Creek National Fish Hatchery. Each year, more than 600,000 trout are stocked into Tribal lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, making it the largest Indian Trust inland recreational fishing program in the National Fish Hatchery System.
